Storm The Train Review – Inspiration For Movies

Nov 14

Chillingo and Games Faction had formed a powerful alliance to create a casual game so fun; it will take the world by storm! We were browsing for new games on the app store were drawn by the stunning screen shots. However, we soon realize that that was only the tips of the iceberg. Storm The Train has elegantly explained why execution is way more critical than the concept itself.

What starts off as a typical platformer arcade game turns out to be a gamer’s drug. With three characters to choose from, players didn’t start off being spoilt with choices, but like a car racing game, enough to weigh based on their own perceived mastery. At Gameographics, we played all three characters and figured there is not much difference between Graham (well balanced character) and Mason (Heavy damage, slow speed). Likewise for Graham and Carrera (High agility, low damage). Carrera reminds us of a typical rouge-class MMORPG player, and also our favorite.

And yes, if Games Faction were to take this game any further, we may see some elements of Lara Croft and Jill Valentine in it too. Wouldn’t be too surprised! Who needs girlfriends? Pfft!

The epic shooting raid takes place on a train. Different carriages depict a different theme. You have nightmare train of death, futuristic robots zone and oriental ninja-samurai dimension. If you are a fan of Underworld, Carrera is exactly like Selene. Slaying werewolves and vampires with her Uzis. And travelling to different world with just a leap seems to be a concept sucked out from the Matrix, with Carrera being Trinity.  Each dimension usually ends off with either a Boss fight, or a mission to rescue the hostage. Look, having a lady to kick your ass has never been as easily justified as what you will witness in this game. The secret ingredient is in the control and graphics.

“Smooth like butter”, is such an understatement. Your character moves like a cat in velvet throughout the game. Games Faction seemed to have perfected the art of game physics and response gravity. Every touch of the button, whether it is to maneuver or to blast some critters, looks well integrated with flawless transmission. Games Faction took every chance to capitalize on the game’s fluid control. From collecting coins, to firing shots, all the way to eliminating those annoying monsters, players can expect to be pampered with particle effects. Nothing feels more satisfying than dashing towards a zombie and having it to explode in your shot just when you were about to go clash into its rotten face! Wonder how zombie blood tastes like though, heh.

In Storm The Train, players can use their coins immediately after earning them by deploying drone allies to fight alongside with your character. Because of the fluidity of gameplay and seemingly Einstein artificial intelligence in placed, your drones moves around you to complement your objectives like as though they have been working together on missions for the past 7 centuries.  If you get to record a scene on this game and watch it later, trust us, with Storm The Train, it goes straight into Hollywood.

Verdict

Storm The Train is by far, the best platformer we have played for months. It was an instant hit among our fellow gaming peers. Major points scored on the graphical output and movement fluidity. As many gamers will complain about control restrictions with multi touch pads on iPhones, we have yet to get a single complain in this area. It could be that players were hypnotized by the game, or the controls were basically a class on its own.

Is it just me, or the characters look like they are from Jetpack Joyride?

How can anyone not get addicted to this? Even if violent game promotes violence, let it be. I rather be violent all my life than to be deprived of a game like this!
